SOSA
Many business systems in production today can trace their program code back to the 1980s. As technical progress delivers ever more network capacity and cheap processing power, the focus for enterprise systems has moved away from back-office operations and administration. Forward thinking managers and business owners know that a step change in system capabilities is necessary to support their business plans. Solarsoft is ready to deliver that step change.
Our design principles focus on adding value in the front-office and at every point of contact between you, your system and your customers. We take care of administration and operations, of course, but we know that the ability to respond quickly to customers by integrating knowledge across departments and up and down the supply chain is essential to maximizing the value of your business.
The technologies we select for development ensure that our products embody four essential qualities:
- Modern - built for the future using today’s technology standards
- Open - connect easily with Excel or other systems to share data
- Reliable - validate data to ensure database integrity at every step
- Easy to use - have a Windows user interface that is quick and easily learned.
Solarsoft ERP systems are built on vendor platforms from our technology partners IBM and Microsoft. We also support a range of Unix implementations including AIX and open source Linux.
Regardless of the underlying technology used, our systems follow a standard architecture (see SOSA side bar) which ensures that all platforms work together with a suite of value-added options offering flexible configurations for Manufacturing, Distribution and Wholesale & Merchant
Our platforms offer robust support for all the standard capabilities of integrated ERP systems. At a detailed level our products implement the myriad industry specific features that make them easy to install and easy to use in a wide range of applications. And because they are open, our systems can be readily integrated with a range of 3rd party products from our partners.

Platforms
mVP: our Microsoft .Net platform uses the inherent flexibility of Microsoft’s network centric development tools to offer seamless connectivity with desktop applications such as Excel, Word and Outlook. With SQL Server providing the ODBC compliant relational database engine, mVP is a solid transactional platform that is readily integrated with 3rd party products.
iVP: for high-transaction rate applications where bullet-proof reliability and low operational overheads are critical, our iVP platform uses IBM’s System i server with integral DB2 database fronted by a Windowed user interface written in Java. IBM’s mid-range workhorse delivers a host of sophisticated operating features designed to minimize total cost of ownership. For example, test and training installations can safely run on the same equipment as production while being completely isolated from one another.
xVP: is a cross-vendor platform. Configurations are available to run on Windows with SQL Server as well as a range of Unix implementations including the open source Linux operating system and mySQL database. Increasingly, businesses are attracted to open source both for its low license cost and the growing reputation for day-in day-out reliability. And with Solarsoft’s consulting and support teams on hand you no longer need an on-site specialist to administer your software.
